Program Description

The associate of arts in liberal arts degree is designed to satisfy diverse educational interests. It provides the general curricula of the first two years of baccalaureate study for transfer to four-year institutions or may serve as an end in itself.

Career and Educational Advancement Opportunities

Upon completion of the degree, a student should have taken a number of introductory courses that satisfy the general education requirements of most four-year institutions and should be accepted into the academic department of his or her choice. On the practical level, the student has the opportunity to explore various subjects while considering career choices. Students must earn a grade of “C” or better in all pre-admission course work.

Program Requirements

Total credit hours required: 61 (49 hours of general education courses and 12 hours of general electives courses). Please refer to the University of New Mexico Core Curriculum on pages 72-73 for a list of allowed courses for Writing & Speaking, Mathematics, Physical & Natural Sciences , Social & Behavioral Sciences, Humanities, Foreign Language, and Fine Arts. A minimum of 20 credit hours must be completed at the 200 level or above.
